Long Island cops fatally shoot man armed with samurai sword

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (AP) — Nassau County police say officers have shot and killed a man armed with a samurai sword at a home on Long Island.

It happened as officers responded to a 911 call for a domestic disturbance at a home in Oceanside at about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say two officers who arrived at the scene found a father and his 35-year-old son involved in an altercation.

Police say the son had knives in his hands and was very distraught. Police say he dropped the knives and picked up a samurai sword and lunged at the officers who then fired several shots, killing the man.

The identity of the man has not been released. Police say they were told by the family the son had some mental health issues.
